Moreover, on Lijnbaan and Coolsingel you’ll find an abundance of famous fashion chains, sporting goods stores, drugstores and department stores. Lijnbaan was the f irst pedestrian-only shopping street in Europe. It is a large, open arcade.
Coolsingel connects Hofplein to Blaak and it is one of the main streets of Rotterdam. It’s always busy. The beautiful Rotterdam City Hall is also located on Coolsingel. From Central Station you enter the city center via Kruisplein. You will also find Kruiskade, Van Oldenbarneveltstraat and Karel Doormanstraat, also known as the “Fashion District” of Rotterdam.
Kruiskade, Van Oldenbarneveltstraat & Koopgoot
Kruiskade and West-Kruiskade are famous shopping streets in the center of Rotterdam with trendy, little shops interspersed with multicultural businesses. Van Oldenbarneveltstraat in the center of Rotterdam has a luxurious and chic look and the atmosphere in the shops is more exclusive than elsewhere in Rotterdam. However, there is still plenty for those who are on a tighter budget because the shops on Van Oldenbarneveltstraat are very diverse.
The street follows the Lijnbaan and the Koopgoot, but you will not find any chains along Van Oldenbarneveltstraat. Karel Doormanstraat is surrounded by several important sites in downtown Rotterdam that make a shopping day in Rotterdam complete.
Beursplein & Meent
Beursplein is a pedestrian-only shopping square in Rotterdam. It is the center of Rotterdam’s shopping area. Stores that are located here include Bijenkorf, Hema and H&M. Meent is known for its chic clothing stores, making it one of the most attractive shopping streets in the heart of Rotterdam.
Pannekoekstraat & Witte de Withstraat
Pannekoekstraat has a completely unique ambiance: there are no major chains, but cozy little shops each offering something unique. The street can be described as urban and trendy but it is still very accessible.
In Witte de Withstraat you will not find any ordinary fashion stores, but instead numerous trendy boutiques with distinctive collections and (inter)national reputation. Additionally, you will discover the many galleries located here which offer diverse and sometimes controversial art.
Nieuwe Binnenweg
In the lee of the turbulent city center is Nieuwe Binnenweg, which is located near the Museum Quarter. This is the longest shopping street in Rotterdam and it’s where you’ll find a surprising mix of dozens of boutiques and shops – from vintage to gothic, from designer to street wear.
In addition, there are many exclusive record shops and furniture stores there. Art lovers will feel at home on this street, as there are numerous art galleries and museums which offer plenty of inspiration.
