Museumpark & Shipping district
Museumpark
Museumpark is a modern park in the center of Rotterdam, in the midst of six museums, which also explains its name. It is located on the former estate of the Hoboken family, who lived there in the Villa Dijkzigt which since 1987 has housed the Natural History Museum Rotterdam. There are various works of art in the park, allowing it to function as an open-air museum. Museumpark is part of the so-called Art Axis which includes six museums within walking distance of each other:
• Het Nieuwe Instituut;
• Natural History Museum Rotterdam;
• Kunsthal;
• Depot Boijmans van Beuningen;
• Chabot Museum;
• Sonneveld House.
Shipping district
From Museum Park, it is a few minutes’ walk to the Veerhaven via Scheepstimmermanslaan. On Scheepstimmermanslaan there are several nice and charming restaurants where you can enjoy a meal or just a drink.
The Veerhaven is situated in the Shipping District which is considered by many to be one of Rotterdam’s most beautiful spots. At this location, the character of the former historic city is still present. Due to its magnifi cent location and facilities, the Veerhaven gets many major international cruise ships at its ports. In addition, it also serves as a stopping point for sailboats in transit that stop for a few days in Rotterdam. The Veerhaven is also the base of several maritime events and the famous “Wereldmuseum” is located here.
